Using a fast and affordable HPLC method, they showed that Nepal grows world-class turmeric but loses quality during processing, affecting both farmers and consumers.

Wild bumble bees do not just visit flowers. They shop for nutrients. An eight year study in Colorado tracked eight bee species and measured protein, fat, and carbohydrate in pollen from dozens of plants. It found two diet styles: some species chose higher protein pollen, others picked pollen with less protein and more fats and sugars. Long tongues reached different blooms than short tongues, shaping diet. The menu also changed with the season: spring offered more protein, late summer more energy. Queens and workers sometimes differed. Plant early protein and late energy, and mix flower shapes to feed them all.
